Traditionally when we think of boxing, fights, and combat sports we’re taught to believe that it’s a masculine way of being. When we think of history’s greatest fighters, names like the late Muhammad Ali or Floyd Mayweather come to mind, not necessarily Lucia Rijker or Laila Ali.
Our ambassador Anna Farrant, owner of Vancouver-based All City Athletics boxing studio, is working to change the perspective of boxing as a masculine sport to the non-gendered quality of simply being assertive. She says that everyone can box, and that it’s a way to tap into something innate within that’s deeply tied to mindfulness. “We’ve been fighters our whole lives, I think there’s something very natural about it. It’s deep, it’s primal, it’s evolution,” says Farrant.
